This summer in the world of football, there is plenty of upheaval in the offing. Many countries in the African continent are after new managers as are five-time World Champions Brazil and maybe former World Champs Germany too.
It’s not just the international sides who need new managers. Barcelona, Liverpool and it appears likely Bayer Leverkusen as well as German giants Bayern Munich.
On the club side of things, remarkably one man could be the catalyst for one of the almighty footballing managerial merry-go-rounds. Former Liverpool, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich midfielder Xabi Alonso could be a wanted man for several elite European clubs.
The former Real Sociedad coach has served his time in the world of coaching. Alonso’s rise has been meteoric and impressive on the same note. When the Spaniard took over last season at the Bayer Arena, he took over a team in free fall.
Leverkusen, who have been given the nickname by some as Neverkusen, turned into playing Togetherkusen and performed admirably to get into the Europa League semi-finals last season as well as finishing sixth in the League when they were near the bottom.
Being from a Spanish upbringing is evident in Xabi Alonso’s side and the way plays. Alonso’s Leverkusen have played swashbuckling football this term to lead the 12-time defending Bundesliga champions by two points.
This swash-buckling football high-intensity, inverted full-back formation is all the rage and with Alonso, as a chairman, you will have a manager who will implement this dream style of football.
With Brighton’s sought-after coach Roberto De Zerbi being in high demand due to the way his side play, Albion’s chairman Tony Bloom will be happy that clubs are reportedly staying away from his star man.
Here at the-sports-buff we think that although Bayern were linked with their former midfield player, we think Xabi Alonso will either go to Liverpool or stay put and wait for Real Madrid in the future.
We think Joachim Low will be Bayern’s manager as a result and Hansi Flick has a good chance of being Barcelona’s manager. This is based on our opinion rather than any concrete rumours of any sort.
Some quarters have even linked Alonso to the job at Manchester City. I wouldn’t see this happening, due to his Liverpool loyalties. So, this is our thoughts on it all, what’s yours?
