Lancashire left-arm spinner Tom Hartley is in line to make his test debut tomorrow for England in their first test against India in Hyderabad. The tourists have opted to play three specialist spinners.
Rehan Ahmed and Jack Leach are the other two spin options for The Three Lions. Some England fans might be surprised, especially with his injury record, Mark Wood is the only fast bowler in Ben Stokes’ starting 11.
With England captain Ben Stokes having undergone knee surgery, it’s unlikely that he will be able to bowl some overs in the Sub Continent if any at all. Stokes confirmed that Ben Foakes will return to the side and keep wicket in the first test.
Jonny Bairstow who had been keeping wicket over the summer, will be picked solely as a batsman after Harry Brooks was forced to return home due to personal reasons.
Uncapped spinner Shoaib Bashir, has returned home as the Somerset bowler needs to address issues with his visa. It’s expected, this won’t be a big problem, and he can play in the second test if selected.
The surface in Hyderabad will be a dry one, hence why England have opted for three front-line spinners. With Joe Root in the side, The Three Lions will have four spinners.
England fans, you might mock me, but don’t you remember his fiver last time England toured the country?
