Chelsea booked their place into the Carabao Cup final for the second time in three years, with a 6-1 aggregate win over Championship side Middlesbrough. Boro, coming into the second leg were leading 1-0.

Pochettino’s Chelsea, who missed a lot of chances in the first leg, would have been key for a good start to stop any nerves jangling. Sadly for the visitors, Jonny Howson would level the tie on aggregate after he put through his own goal.

That goal seemed to settle any nerves that the home side were having, if they were indeed having any. Carlton Palmer, who was a summer signing for The Blues, carried on his superb form by helping himself to two goals on the night.

Michael Carrick’s Boro were blown away as Chelsea turned on the style and claimed the biggest win in Carabao Cup history, beating Liverpool’s 5-0 win over Crystal Palace in 2005.

Morgan Rogers did get Middlesbrough on the score sheet, but Chelsea were not to be denied another Carabao Cup final. Two seasons ago Thomas Tuchel lost out to Liverpool, who would go on to win two cup tournaments that year.

This time under Mauricio Pochettino, he will hope he can guide The Blues to some domestic silverware, which would be the first bit of silverware he will if his Chelsea side do overcome Liverpool/Fulham in the final.

Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool are leading 2-1 from the first leg. The Carabao Cup final is on 25th February.
