You can’t teach an old dog new tricks they say. In the sporting world, the world of snooker, tennis, cricket and to a point football, then it’s the old dogs teaching the new pups some tricks.

Ronnie O’Sullivan, who is a seven-time World Champion, is enjoying a superb season, even by his standards. The Rocket instead of slowing down, at 48-years-young is showing the younger players on the circuit how snooker should be played.

World number two Judd Trump who was 4-0 up in the recently concluded World Grand Prix, would be beaten 10-7. Like Ali Carter in The Masters, Trump was powerless to stop O-Sullivan when he went on to win six consecutive frames.

The Rocket is defying nature and isn’t slowing down. That sounds familiar, if we move over to tennis, the same could be said of Novak Djokovic, the world number, who despite the fierce competition of youngsters around him, remains the top guy in world tennis.

Carlos Alcaraz, had the ‘nerve’ to win Wimbledon. Why do I put it like that? This win for the Spanish youngster almost infuriated the Serbian legend, and he’s cleaned up at every other Grand Slam since.

An old-timer can’t surely be cleaning up house in football when there’s Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe. This surely can’t be the case, well statistically the 39-year-old Ronaldo outscored Harry Kane, Haaland and Mbappe who are all in their prime.

CR7 being at the twilight of his career and he’s playing in a so-called ‘Mickey Mouse League’, is too easy of a stick to beat him with. Vincent Aboubakr or Odion Igahlo didn’t score as many as Ronaldo did they?

No, no they didn’t so show the man some appreciation. Appreciation is what England fast-bowler James Anderson could do with.

The Lancashire bowler, who is known as The Burnley Express, is the highest wicket-taker for fast bowlers and despite a tough series Down Under in Australia is still England’s best bowler.

In Joe Root’s tenure as captain they tried to displace both he and Stuart Broad, but what happened? Both players made their way back to starting 11, as quickly as both were dropped.

England do have some quality fast bowlers, that might usher Sir Jimmy to retirement, but their injury records enable James Anderson to fight another day and bowl another over.
