Veteran Rafael Nadal will miss the Australian Open due to injury. The 37-year-old will return to Spain to get treatment for a hip injury.

The 22-time Grand Slam Winner only made his return to competitive action after a year out last week, when he won two matches at the Brisbane International event.

Nadal said a scan had shown a micro tear on a muscle but not in the same area as his previous long-term injury.

As good news as that is out of a desperate situation, the tennis world will be longing for the Mallorca player even more.

Nadal had talked up the possibility that he plays beyond this year, so let’s hope this latest injury is just a minor setback.
