It’s being reported by local Barrancas media outlets and police sources, ending a difficult 18 days for the Diaz family.
Luis Manuel Díaz was handed over to United Nations and Catholic church officials by members of the National Liberation Army (ELN).
He was abducted on 28 October in the family’s hometown, Barrancas.
The footballer’s mother was also seized but was freed within hours.
Luis Diaz junior had not been involved with the Liverpool first team since their game against Toulouse.
When the Columbian returned to the fold against Luton and scored the equaliser, he lifted his shirt to show a message pleading with his father’s captors to release him.
