World Cup hosts India continued their march towards the knockout stages of this year’s World Cup with a jaw-dropping 302-run victory over former Asia Cup winners Sri Lanka.

Visiting captain Kusal Mendis won the toss and opted to put India in, which became a doom decision, more and more as the game went on.

Shubman Gill (92), Virat Kohli, (88) and Shreyas Iyer (82) all made healthy contributions to help the 2011 World Champions post a mammoth 357-8.
On top of three healthy contributions from India’s middle order, all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja smacked a 24-ball 35.

In reply, the 1996 World Champions managed to score 55 .. all out. Instead of Mendis, Angelo Matthews, Charith Asalanka and co coming out, it clearly looks like it was indeed my year nine cricket team.

On a serious note, Sri Lanka’s woeful record against India continued. In the Asia Cup final they made 50 all out and here it was 55.

South Africa awaits Rohit Sharma’s India on Sunday in what should be a very exciting game. As for Sri Lanka, they face off against already eliminated Bangladesh.
