With a total like that, more times than not, your team will lose a cricket match. Why have The Three Lions been so poor this tournament?

Well, critically speaking and sorry to say so, it shouldn’t be that much of a surprise. The world champions opted for a makeshift opening pairing.

Details like this make a big deal. Dawid Malan is an honest player, but he’s not an opener, he’s a player who has had success batting at three or maybe four.

So who should have opened? Well, why not Jason Roy? It would help if the ECB handled that situation well.

There was a dilemma of do they play Harry Brooks in the squad or keep Jason Roy, who has been there and done it.

Upon reflection, England did almost neither. Neither man would be in the side. The reason for that is due to Ben Stokes, the England test captain and star all-rounder.

How many more all-rounders do you need? The world champions haven’t been able to fill in the gaps that some big departures have created.

Dear reader, if you thought I was going to finish my thoughts with optimism, sadly this isn’t the case. For all the woes that England have faced now, an early door is not going to ease.

Ali, Stokes, Woakes and maybe Buttler won’t see another 50 over World Cup. Joe Root might survive one more, but what famous last words by the man?

Root suggested England have struggled in this tournament due to the lack of 50-over games. ECB, are you listening, now will you be rid of this waste of time tournament The Hundred????
