It’s been a tough week for the Rangers and a tough start to the season too. The Glasgow giants who have spent big this summer, were expecting big things.

Some 12 players were signed and the expectation was that The Gers would have a sustained title push this term.

Maybe Rangers can still, but with a seven-point deficit to claw back, it appears a tall order. Their current predicament is a far cry from the title-winning side of 2021.

That team was Steven Gerrard’s. The former Liverpool captain did a respectable job whilst at Ibrox, but couldn’t resist the calling of Aston Villa.

To replace Gerrard the Rangers board looked at one of their former players, Giovanni Van Bronkhorst. I am adamant, the former Feyenoord manager who won the title with the Rotterdam club, did well at Ibrox.

Last season, it was deemed by the Rangers board that Gio Van Bronkhorst had taken The Gers as far as he could and ultimately a change was needed in the dugout.

That was the thoughts of the Rangers board, not mine. The 55-time Scottish Premier League winners would opt for former assistant Michael Beale as their manager.

On the face of it, this was going to be a good appointment, right? After all, Beale was part of the title-winning team in Steven Gerrard’s coaching staff.

He knows the players and knows the standards that the club sets. In theory, this was the case, but practically it wasn’t.

Key players under previous managers, Messrs Ryan Kent and Alfredo Morelos, were publicly slated by their then-manager Beale.

A massive transitional period this season began and instead of getting closer to defending champions Celtic, they’re further away.
So now Michael Beale has left, who should replace him?

Frank Lampard had been linked with the job, but it’s been confirmed he won’t be offered the job. I am a fan of John Terry being given a chance.

Of course, the Chelsea legend is out in Saudi at the moment working as a director of football, but the lure of club management would be too good to turn down.

Yes JT doesn’t have experience as a manager and to learn on the job at Ibrox is not child’s play. Having spent some time coaching at his beloved Chelsea and Aston Villa, why not give the man a go?

If not Terry, then another option could be Dean Smith. The former Walsall, Brentford, Aston Villa, Norwich and Leicester City Manager might harshly get judged on his last job.

Truth be told, it wasn’t his fault that The Foxes finished where they were. Results (ones he couldn’t control) went against the former Villa manager.

Dean Smith’s sides play good football, Rangers fans will appreciate that for sure. I am sure you will have your favourites for the job, but we are quite keen on Derek McInnes.

Former Rangers midfielder McInnes has had spells with Aberdeen and Kilmarnock (where he is currently manager) and has done well in both jobs.

The feeling, with Derek McInnes is that he’s served his time as a manager and deserves an elite job. Being manager of Glasgow Rangers is as big as they come.
