As the Usher song goes, it’s been umpteen days, umpteen hours till you return! Ok, maybe not those lyrics, but football fans say it with me, Premier League football we missed you!
Due to the Winter World Cup, we had less of a gap between the end of the season and the start of it. Coming into the season, Burnley, Sheffield United and Luton Town were the promoted sides from the Championship.
At the time of writing, The Hatters were well beaten 4-1 in their first game against Brighton, who themselves won 4-1 again, this time against Wolves.
Moises who? As for Luton, their game with Burley had to be postponed due to the work to their home ground to get it to Premier League standard not being ready yet.
If last Friday was anything to go by, Burnley, last season’s Championship winners will do very well in the Premier League this season.
Last Friday was of course the first game of the new season. Although The Clarets went down 3-0, they didn’t embarrass themselves. They were in the game for large parts of the game.
Here at the-sports-buff.com, I always try to be impartial, but several of you know I am a Mancunian-born Manchester United fan.
I was born in the Sir Alex Ferguson era and in one of the jobs that I had, when you went up to the top floor, you could see the Man United ground.
You won’t be able to see the United Ground in London unless you’re on Google Maps!
With that all said and done let’s get the mentioning of them out of the way, they were poor and disjointed.
With how cut throat the Glazers can be, this is make or break for The Red Devils. Tottenham, their hosts in the 17:30 game, seemed energised with the departure of Kane rather than laboured.
As poor as Erik Ten Haag’s side were Ange’s Spurs were brilliant. They won this game 2-0, but it could have been more.
The Lillywhites hit the woodwork three times! United’s midfield balance again proving an issue. What also looks to be a doomed decision is the lack of a focal point for Ten Haag’s side.
Hojlund can’t start quickly enough! It’s very early doors, but already I can say that Manchester City look to be the team to beat.
The champions have not conceded in their first two games and through Phil Foden’s growing responsibility in Man City’s side, they have maybe found the solution to the KDB problem.
A problem that doesn’t have Belgian Kevin De Bruyne solving it, isn’t truly solved. Another team that could struggle to solve problems is Everton.
The Toffees who were revitalised under Sean Dyche when he was appointed last term, struggled to score goals, due to a lack of a centre-forward.
Everton are said to have been holding talks with Southampton forward Che Adams. Maybe this could help them address their issues in front of goal?
Another team who could also struggle are Fulham, who were forced to sell their unhappy captain Aleksandar Mitrovic.
Former Newcastle Mitrovic has been their talisman. Who will score your 45 goals a season and help your team score 100 goals in the Championship when you get relegated now ?!
I am sorry, not called for. In all seriousness I do like Fulham, and their manager too.
Yours truly is trying to deflect the situation in the sense of me not getting frustrated with United’s away day blues.
Did you know, United now have a 30-8 aggregate score against, when it comes to the top nine teams in the league?
After surprising everyone last year and finishing fourth, I expect Newcastle to do something similar. But this year’s surprise package, as everyone is quietly confident they will do well, isn’t Burnley.
This year’s surprise package in my mind is going to be Liverpool. The 19-time league champions Liverpool? Yeah, that’s the one.
The same Liverpool team, that’s teaching the nations men how to wash and moisturise their face. Well after last season’s dry performances, your fans will need a Revitalift for matters on the pitch.
Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool are going through an almighty transition, but I want to fight their corner.
Liverpool have done ok this transfer window. One more midfielder wouldn’t go a miss. Someone call Sir Jim! I am sure he has some knocking around, that are worth snapping.
Kephren Thuram anyone?
As a Manchester United fan, bantering me is fair game. Yes, it’s two games, but there’s an alarming lack of fluency.
Dear reader, I am not crying through my Beard as I type this, honest! I think The Red Devils might be the biggest disappointment this term.
Come back to this article when I am right 🙂 .
