Italy have appointed last year’s SerieA title-winning boss Luciano Spelleti after the departure of former Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini.

As impressive as an appointment this is for The Azzzuri, this is also a surprising appointment too. The 64-year-old is vastly experienced and has managed in Russia too.

Club football and international football are two different things. Maybe Spelleti was only going to cancel his sabbatical if a national team job came about.

After reporting on the sacking of Mancini, our sports desk suggested that maybe even one Jose Mourinho have a chance at the top job in Italian football.

It never crossed our minds, as we were of full knowledge that the former Zenit St Petersburg boss was going to take some time out of the game.

With the former Italy boss out of work, I see the Saudi Pro League as the destination of his next job.
