Aston Villa have completed their second signing of the summer transfer window, by completing the signing of Spain defender Pau Torres.

Torres who came through the Villareal academy has been the subject of the Premier League interest for several seasons.

Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United have been linked with the 26-year-old in the past.

Fast, strong and with an excellent reading of the game, Pau Torres will compliment defensive partner Tyrone Mings at the heart of the Villa defence nicely.

The former Villareal man will bring a sense of calmness at the back.

Torres made his debut for Spain in 2019 and has played both at Euro 2020 and the 2022 World Cup. Aston Villa’s new signing made his debut for the Yellow Submarine in 2016.

In 2016 He became the first man from the Valencian region to debut for the club. Pau Torres made 173 appearances for his boyhood club, scoring 12 times.

Torres has played for his country in the Euros and last year’s World Cup in Qatar. The 26-year-old won the Europa League in 2021 when Villareal beat Manchester United on penalties.

Unai Emery was his manager that night, this move, which although the fee is disclosed we believe is in the region of £35 million, as these numbers had been quoted for the centre-back.
This is a very good signing for Aston Villa as they embark on a European journey next season.
