Home side England who are 2-0 down in the five test Ashes series, have recalled Moeen Ali, Mark Wood and Chris Woakes.
The Three Lions who have twice ended up on the wrong side of thrillers. There’s fine margins in sport and England have ended up on the wrong side of that line, when it arguably could have been avoided.
At Edgbaston, Ben Stokes made a very bizarre declaration on day one when Joe Root was in and set. Then in the second test, three wickets fell very quickly in very tame fashion.
With Australia being depleted due to the absence of star spinner Nathan Lyon, from an England point it’s surely disappointing to have not been able to have capitalised.
Ben Stokes’ side have the chance to avenge the two losses in the first two tests when they go to Headingly for the third test.
For the England captain in particular, this was the scene of the famous one-wicket win where Stokes became a one-man army to thwart Australia in thrilling circumstances.
This time round, for The Three Lions, it’s a case of win or bust. The inclusion’s of Woakes, Wood and Ali are a tad risky, time will tell if they were correct calls.
The inclusion of Durham paceman Mark Wood is needed, someone who can strike fear into the opposition with his pace.
I wasn’t keen on the exclusion of Josh Tongue, who did ok in the last test. Having said that, to being Chris Woakes back in the side could be a good move.
The Warwickshire all-rounder could be valuable lower down the order for the hosts. In terms of the match itself, England will fancy their chances.
This isn’t guaranteed success. Nathan Lyon’s replacement for this test Todd Murphy might be nervous bowling in England.
The home side could play on the nerves of the Sydney Sixers man, but he has impressed when called upon against India in the Subcontinent.
