Spanish sensation Carlos Alcaraz won at Queens Club defeating, Alex de Minaur in the Queen’s final. The 20–year-old won the final in straight sets 6-4 6-4, to help get his Wimbledon preparations underway.
The latest title in the Spaniard’s career means that he has won five titles this season, Sunday’s win in the Queen’s Club final against the Australian was his very first on grass. After winning against de Minaur, Alcaraz has regained his number one world ranking.
Carlos Alcaraz will be hoping to take his form and confidence gained from Queens to SW19 (Wimbledon), which starts on 3rd July. It will be a tall order for the Murcian native, especially when there is four-time defending champion Novak Djokovic to contend with.
As far as grand slam titles go, Novak is the most successful player to have played the sport. These two men (Djokovic and Alcaraz), are arguably the two best players in the sport currently.
They faced each other for the first time in the French Open semi-finals and it was Novak Djokovic who emerged on top on that occasion in four sets, but the Spanish youngster was injured during the game.
Here’s to hoping both men can be fit and provide the excitement that the Wimbledon crowd will be wanting.
