Former Valencia, Liverpool, Everton, Newcastle, Inter Milan and Real Madrid manager Rafael Benitez is back in management with La Liga side Celta Vigo.
Benitez who has a wealth of management experience, replaces Carlos Carvalhal, who left at the end of the season after helping Celta avoid relegation.
The 63-year-old has agreed a three-year deal. One of Rafa’s biggest challengers managing a Celta Vigo side that finished 13th last term will be to try and keep hold of their latest sensation to come out of the talent pool, Gabri Veiga.
It’s rumoured that sides such as Manchester United are in for the central midfielder. If Benitez can keep hold of him and maybe they can be shrewd in the transfer market, who knows a push for the Conference League?
One thing I do know, a team of Celta Vigo’s stature and heritage shouldn’t be looking to just solely survive in La Liga. The 2-1 win over champions Barcelona on the last day of the season can be the springboard they need to succeed this year
