Red Bull Leipzig’s Austrian midfielder Konrad Laimer has agreed to join German champions Bayern Munich on a free transfer. The 26-year-old who made 190 appearances for the East Germans, has signed on a four-year deal.
Laimer’s arrival at Bayern will arguably pave the way for fellow Austrian midfielder Marcel Sabitzer to leave the club. Sabitzer was on loan at Manchester United in the second half of the season, as The Red Devils looked to compensate for the loss of Christian Eriksen.
United are said to be interested in making the deal permanent, but with their transfer plans not clear due to their ownership issues, it remains to be seen if they can complete the deal.
Although Bayern Munich did win the league, their latest title win, their 11th in a row, was seen by many as an almost hollow victory. Two members of the board, Hassan Salihamazic and Oliver Khan were fired very shortly after the news of winning their 33rd domestic league title, a German record.
With the signing of the 26-year-old Laimer, the rumours have been circulating as to who the 11-time champions in a row will sell to accommodate Konrad Laimer.
Joshua Kimmich is one player that’s been linked with a move away, but he is also one of the key players of the Bavarian side’s midfield. Kimmich has been rumoured to be leaving Germany to join Barcelona this summer, a move which would see him join up with former teammate Robert Lewandowski.
With news of this transfer and the future of Sabitzer not clear, one thing is certain is that a summer of upheaval awaits. Maybe even former Ajax man Ryan Gravenberch could be on the move.
Under former manager Julian Nagelsmann a move away from the Allianz area was blocked, maybe under Thomas Tuchel, Gravenberch could be allowed to leave.
