World number three came out on top against world number one, by beating the Spaniard in four sets. The 22-time Grand Slam champion would end up winning 6-3 5-7 6-1 6-1.
At the start of this contest, there were several breaks of serve, but it would be Serbian Djokovic who would take the first 6-3. In the second set, the US Open champion Alcaraz seemed to be in the ascendancy by getting a 5-3 lead, but he wasn’t able to close out the set.
Novak Djokovic being the fierce competitor that he is, got back into the set and the score in the second set was 5-5. Admirably, Alcaraz recovered from the setback of losing his service when trying to close out the set, to break Djokovic once more.
This time, the 20-year-old Spaniard closed out the set 7-5. Game on, right? Sadly this match which seemed destined to be an epic would be ruined by an injury to Carlos Alcaraz.
The world number one pulled up with cramps and had to take several time-outs. Bravely, he carried on, on two separate occasions. Novak Djokovic though, was able to take advantage of his crocked opponent and would go through the gears to win the next two sets 6-1, 6-1.
The final score read 6-3 5-7 6-1 6-1 in the favour of two-time French Open champion Djokovic.
Casper Ruud ( last year’s beaten finalist) or Alexander Zvrev ( last year’s beaten semi-finalist), await Novak in Sunday’s final.
