Real Madrid have agreed an initial £88.6 million fee to sign England and Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham. The Birmingham academy graduate, who before joining BVB, did attract a lot of interest from Premier League clubs.

The news of this transfer comes less than a month after Dortmund came so close to winning the German Bundesliga title.

Twenty-time champions Manchester United were credited with a strong interest in the past. Even legendary United manager Sir Alex Ferguson gave the youngster a tour of Old Trafford in an attempt to woo Bellingham, but the player had his heart set on a move abroad and to Dortmund he went.

In his time in Germany, Jude Bellingham joined as a boy and left as a man. In the case of the 19-year-old midfielder, maybe not so much as he was performing beyond his years.

For such a young age Jude Bellingham achieved so much. He became a mainstay in the England midfield and was a talismanic figure for the German giants.

Bellingham nearly dragged his side to a famous Bundesliga title win, but sadly for the Englishmen, he was injured for the final game of the season and it proved to be a big loss as Edin Terzic’s side fell painfully short in their quest to be champions for the first time since 2012.

United’s rivals Liverpool were said to be in for Jude Bellingham, the 19-year-old’s father seemed to suggest his son was set for a move to Anfield. But with the club unwilling to spend most of their transfer budget on one player, the path seemed clear for Real to make their move.

Spanish giants Real Madrid made their move some weeks ago, but with the Bundesliga season now over, both sides have been able to conclude negotiations.

Englishman Jude Bellingham will be joining a side stacked with midfield talent. Bellingham’s arrival only intensifies speculation that Luka Modric could leave the club.

The Croatian and Madrid legend has been reportedly mulling an offer to join the Saudi Pro League. For a consistent performer and loyal servant as he is, surely Modric deserves one last big day before riding off into the sunset?
