Rangers players Scott Arfield as well as Allan McGregor, Alfredo Morelos, Ryan Kent and Filip Helander, will all be leaving in the summer. The quintet were all integral in their 2019 title-winning season under former boss Steven Gerrard.

Former assistant manager to Gerrard and current manager Michael Beale publicly stated that the futures of Kent and Morelos won’t be at Ibrox. In the case of Columbian Morelos, Rangers have handled the situation poorly.

Firstly for their manager to publicly slate a player like that, just struck me as very odd, but also, it wasn’t too long ago that French side Lille had tabled a bid, only for a deal to not work out and now the player leaves for nothing.

The same can be said about Ryan Kent, this situation has also been poorly handled. With the greatest respect, Rangers don’t have the deep pits of financial freedom like English clubs have, so surely player sales is one way to make some adequate signings.

Think Calvin Bassey. Although he was injured for a large part of the campaign, so sadly it wasn’t going to last, Swede Hellander was too bought for a lot of money and now leaving for free.

In the case of the former Parma man, to get a fee for him was always going to be difficult, but of the five that will be leaving Ibrox, it’s these three as a football observer, that have left me frustrated.

Rangers were well beaten in the league last term and to be able to be more competitive, then the Gers will need to make signings, and that needs money, which is something they could have had more of if they were proactive.

Michael Beale has promised new signings. Malik Tillman looks likely to be one, as he makes his loan move permanent. Only time will tell who the other signings will be.
