When one thinks of Rafael Nadal, a few things come to mind. The luscious locks, the bandana, the three-quarter shorts and the bulging biceps. Those are just some things synonymous with the Spanish legend.
I haven’t forgotten his hard work ethic where he bulldozes his way to win rallies and many five-set matches. Tennis fans, tissues on the ready, Rafa has confirmed that he will be missing this year’s French Open to be able to give a full season next and retire from tennis in 2024.
Can someone please stop cutting onions, trying to type here! Rafa The King Of Clay Nadal has won the French Open title 13 times in his stellar career. From the days of being a fresh-faced teenager till now, Nadal has always found a way to win at Roland Garros.
But mother time waits for no one and his knees have deserted him so many times in his career, only to make an epic comeback with barely one knee in some form of working order.
Currently, Rafa is out injured with a hip injury and this injury looks to be the one that’s broken the camel’s back. Spanish veteran Nadal, who has been competing at the highest level in nearly two decades is joint highest when it comes to grand slam title wins with Novak Djokovic (22).
Talking of hip injuries, Andy Murray, who has been plagued with the problem for a prolonged part of his career now, will also be missing the French Open. Novak, it looks like you have a clear shot at the title.
Carlos Alcaraz and Daniel Medvedev will have something to say about that. Fellas, you will have one hell of a task trying to beat Rafa’s record at Roland Garros.
Get well soon, El Nino! We hope you have a good 2024, which might tempt you to stay on, playing till 2025.
