Manchester City are Premier League champions and Forest all but safe

Nottingham Forest defeated Arsenal 1-0 to make Manchester City Premier League champions for the fifth time in six seasons and boost their survival hopes in the process.

The Gunners have not had the best experience of The City Ground last time out as well. Mikel Arteta’s men had the better of the possession, but Forest to their credit were dogged and determined and worth their win.

This win for Steve Cooper’s men takes them to 37 points, which is seven clear of Leicester, (who play their game in hand on Monday against Newcastle) and six ahead of Leeds (who play against West Ham tomorrow).

Barring some extreme goal swings in their favour, Nottingham Forest will be playing Premier League football next season. As for Arsenal, what has been an encouraging season for them is in real danger of petering out.

The Gunners will be playing in next season’s Champions League, but the way they fell away in the title race will hurt their coach Arteta, but Arsenal finishing second and competing so hard and so long with Manchester City shows that the North London side are moving in the right direction.

With Nottingham Forest within touching distance of safety, it’s a testament to their owners who stuck by him, especially after a barren run for Forest during the season.
