That’s the thing with the beautiful game. Football is very entertaining, for those who are invested in the sport, but football also tells stories much more profound than anything the writers can compile on the soaps during the late afternoon, early evening TV.

It’s time to reminisce the story of the two finalists in this year’s Championship play-off final, Coventry and Luton. In the case of both teams, both can share tales of being financially stricken and being nearly sent to footballing oblivion.

For The Sky Blues, they have tasted Premiership football before, that was over 20 years ago, this is too long for a club of such stature.

In the time away from the Premier League, Coventry have had to fight off being nearly financially ruined, embargo and points deductions and just for good measure they have spent time in League Two.

Luton Town, Coventry’s opponents can go one better. If The Hatters do win the play-off, they can say they have played at every level of the English League pyramid system.

This is some feat, especially as they had a 30-point deduction when they were in the National League. Just like Coventry City, every level they have been at in the Football League.

Both teams have had a meteoric rise up the Football League and both have performed admirably not only in the regular season but in their play-off matches too.

Sunderland and Middlesbrough respectively are on paper at least the two stronger teams in the four-team mini-tournament if you will, but both Coventry and Luton didn’t let that deter them.

Earlier in the season, Coventry were in the relegation places as they were dealing with issues of staging their home games. With that now sorted, they have a not-so-small game against Luton Town to contend with, which many call the richest game in club football.

They say there can only be one winner, but both have done remarkably well to even get this far.
