The grass is green and the sky is blue. Virat Kohli is arguably the greatest player in the shorter forms of the game in this era. All statements that are stating the obvious.

Just like with the Lionel Messi and CR7 debate, if you mention liking one, a crazy and bash you as they favour the other. In the cricket world, they have this too in the form of Babar Azam and King Kohli.

He’s not a literal King of course, but in the sporting sense, the man is sporting royalty. He was an excellent leader, but also a superb player in all formats of the game.

To put the man’s greatness into context, in the IPL 2016, he scored nearly 1000 runs! David Warner in one of the editions, did come close, the man has nothing on Viru. Fittingly then, it would be Kohli who would break Chris Gayle’s IPL record (five IPL centuries).

West Indian Gayle and former captain Kohli, shared many important partnerships. In the play-off decider against the Gujrat Titans, batting first RCB were given a solid platform by their former captain, who now has the most centuries in the history of the competition (six).

Sadly for Bangalore, it would be in a losing cause as Shubman Gill, who many see the 22-year-old as the new Kohli hit a 47-ball 100 to help his side over the line by six wickets.

Shall I tell you a funny joke? Virat Kohli’s career was over. That’s what many said after the veteran went three years without a century, which is a funny thing to think upon reflection, but it’s a fickle world we live in.
