After major flooding in the region, it’s been confirmed The Emilia Romagna Grand Prix has been cancelled. There were talks on Wednesday in the hope that the Grand Prix would be able to be safely carried out, but after talks, it was decided by F1 ‘it was the best thing to do’.
It’s been reported that at least eight people have tragically lost their lives due to the floods across the Emilia Romagna region and 5,000 people have been forced to evacuate.
Talks of rescheduling the Grand Prix had been taking place, but at this stage it’s unlikely to be rescheduled in a busy F1 calendar.
Both Red Bull’s Alpha Tauri team and Ferrari have expressed their heartbreak in regards to the situation at Imola and Emilia Romagna.
After adding an additional race to the calendar to increase the amount of race from 22 to 23, these unfortunate circumstances means that the race schedule will see the amount of races reduced back to 22.
Our thoughts and prayers are with those who have been affected by the flooding across the Imola and Emilia Romagna region.
