Manchester City kept their hopes of a treble alive after they drew their Champions League semi-final first leg 1-1. The Cityzens who fell short last year to the same opposition, came into this one no doubt wanting to right the wrongs of last year.
To their credit, Pep’s men did have bright moments in the game, but as they do so many times and like they did on the night, Real Madrid would open the scoring and looked set to grind out the win.
Real’s goal which was thanks to a Vinicius screamer, came as a stark reminder for City that Los Blancos who are the defending champions, will be no pushovers, far from it.
In previous seasons, that would have been the end of the game, but Manchester City this year, have gained a bit more resilience.
In the Premier League, they came from a deficit to claim top spot in the table and through Belgian supremo Kevin Debruyne, who scored a screamer of his own, it meant that it’s all to play for in the second leg at the Etihad.
In the other semi-final, Inter Milan who were technically the away side, arguably have one foot in the final, after they beat neighbours and arch-rivals AC Milan 2-0.
In a three-minute period in the early stages of the game, goals from Edin Dzeko and Henrikh Mkhitaryan, appear to have put the tie out of reach for Milan.
Of course, these two famous sides share a ground, so it’s not like they’re actually going away from home, but to claw back a two-goal lead won’t be easy, far from it.
At face value, it appears that this will be a Manchester City and Inter Milan final, but write off Real Madrid (14-time Champions League winners) and AC Milan (seven-time Champions League winners) off at your peril.
