By the skin of teeth yes, but it still counts. India’s cricketers are through to World Test Championship final after playing out a bore draw in the final test with Australia.

Rohit Sharma’s men who were beaten finalists last year, losing out to inaugural winners New Zealand, in a large part have them to thank The Black Caps for qualifying for the final this time around.

Tim Southee’s men would clinch a thrilling two-wicket win against Sri Lanka on the final ball, as a result of this thrilling win for New Zealand and agonising defeat for the tourists, their chances of reaching the final have disappeared.

Dimuth Karunaratne’s men coming into the New Zealand series were relying on Australia to do them a favour and also they needed to beat The Black Caps 2-0.

Winning tests away from home is a very tough achievement to achieve. Sri Lanka’s loss only highlights the difficulty. The match in Christchurch was exciting, everything a test match should be, but the match between the two sides that will contest the World Test Championships (India and Australia), was played at a pedestrian pace.

One of the good things to come out of it was that former skipper Virat Kohli hit a century, his first in tests for over three years. The final between Australia and India will be played at the Oval in England, which will both sides have the chance to win all of the trophies the sport has to offer.

With the final being held in England, a neutral venue/ pitch here’s to hoping the standard of cricket on show on the day will be to a good level. The final of the World Test Championships starts on 7th June.
