When one thinks of Belgium, one’s mind naturally thinks of the place where political summits are held. Other associations one has with Belgium include Belgian Waffles, Belgian chocolate and wait for it … French fries.
The last example caught me off guard, but I have been reliably told by a Muslim Belgian brother of mine, their French fries are some of the best. Brother, I will take your word for it and try them out someday.
What Belgium also is home to is some of the best midfielders on the football pitch. Kevin De Bruyne of course is the most celebrated Belgian player in the modern era as well as Eden Hazard, but in the case of the Real Madrid man, I see him as more of an attacker.
As much as these two have been legends of the Belgium game, like with everything else in life, it doesn’t last forever, like these two fine gentlemen. De Bruyne, of Manchester City, of course, is famed for being an elite goal-creator and overall midfield aficionado.
So with that in mind, one of the biggest shocks for me is that in the game between Fulham vs Arsenal on Sunday 12th March, there was an assist record made by a Belgian player and of course, it wasn’t done by KDB, as he doesn’t play for either side.
That record has now been set by former Brighton player Leandro Trossard, who whilst playing for Arsenal became the first player in Premier League history to provide a hat-trick of assists in the first half of a match.
Since joining The Gunners Trossard has had to bide his time in North London, but his performance last time out, provided a timely reminder to boss Mikel Arteta that he can perform when called upon.
Charles De Kelatere is the name hot on Belgian football fans’ lips as one for the future, just hang on a second, let’s give some credit where credit’s due to one of their current stars, Leandro Trossard. Record maker and soon-to-be Premier League winner?
