First, it was Sadio Mane, now it’s Roberto Firmino! Truth be told, I am not a Liverpool fan, but the news that Brazilian Firmino is to depart at the end of the season is news I am saddened by.
I, Ayyaz Malik aka The Sports Buff am the Chief Sports Writer for the-sports-buff.com, with that, I can say I am a sports fan first and a Manchester United fan second.
With that sports fans, I have (hopefully) served you the reader well, by writing well-written and informative articles. Back to this article currently and the discussion of Roberto Firmino.
The former Hoffenheim forward was signed by Brendan Rodgers. Although Bobby as he’s affectionately known wasn’t a prolific goal scorer, his game was so much more. The 31-year-old was elegant on the ball and pit bull terrier-like off it.
That smile, that’s whiter than white is lovely on the eye off the pitch, but on the pitch, he was a player who would kill you softly almost. The flicks, and the flair would leave opposition defenders scratching their heads.
The Brazilian was of course part of the famed front three that consisted of Mane, Firmino and Salah. Out of the three he was disrespected the most. He doesn’t score the critics would say, but Firmino was the glue to that Liverpool front line.
Where as Sadio and Mohammed would get the bulk of the praise, Roberto Firimino would just quietly go about his business.
What was the strongest part of Liverpool’s side, seems to be the weakest. Bobby glued things together. I am not saying, he’s the next Dennis Bergkamp, but he was that for Liverpool what the great Dutchman was for The Gunners.
In life you always people when they’re gone, Bobby Firmino is one of those occasions. Inter Milan and Juventus of SerieA are said to be interested, but the man himself wants to focus on finishing the season well for Liverpool.
Yet again, unfortunately, the wrong Liverpool is leaving Anfield. It should be Mohammed Salah. I am adamant that since Firmino hasn’t been a permanent fixture in the Liverpool set-up, his form has dropped off a cliff.
Roberto, where ever you go, I hope you’re appreciated. Players like you have helped players like Wout Weghorst be appreciated. So from this Manchester United fan second, but sports fan first, I wish you all the best Bobby!
