This is the man that instructed his manager to play a 4-4-3 formation, a man who said that England should have a game where a Northern All Stars team, plays a Southern one.
Mr Tod Boehly, the American billionaire who is the owner of Chelsea FC. Boehly, whose official title is chairmen, has made an appointment, that might be better than any signing he ever makes.
Yes, over dramatizing somewhat but the appointment of Christopher Vivell formerly of RB Salzburg as the club’s new technical director, isn’t one to be snuffed at. Who is he? Well he has been head of scouting and recruitment at Salzburg and over saw the signing of some guy called Erling Haaland.
Football fans, I am sure you have heard of him, he’s been setting the Premier League on fire with Manchester City. Chelsea have been renowned for being very shrewd in the transfer window over the years.
In the last transfer window however , Chelsea spent in excess of £250 million, an eye-watering amount. Part of the reason for this was they paid massive fees for players who arguably didn’t deserve it.
Marc Cucurella is one example that comes to mind. Champions Manchester City wanted to pay £50 million and walked away from the deal. Not deterred by this Chelsea, stumped up the cash for the former Brighton full-back.
With the appointment of the German Vivell, this will go someway to addressing the dual loss of Petr Cech and Marina Granovskaia, but they are one hard act to follow.
At least Boehly is trying do things his way. Christopher Vivell’s appointment is potentially the right one, only time will tell if it is for sure.
