In what was a clear impression of my school team, BBL franchise Sydney Thunder (last year’s beaten finalists I must add), crumbled to 15 all out against the Adelaide Strikers.
Not in a million years, would I have thought I would witness a score line of this nature. India, have come close .. ish (36 all out in a test match against Australia). Which was matched by my not-so-wonderful school team.
I won’t knock it too much as some bloke called Ayyaz Malik, hit a sparkling six runs, which included one four, which is the number of boundaries scored in the Thunder’s innings.
Alex Hales, captain for the day Jason Sangha and South African Riley Rossouw made three runs between them. Brendan Doggett, batting at number 10 was Sydney’s top scorer with four from two balls, which meant a strike rate of 200!
Henry Thornton who impressed in the last game with a four-wicket haul, helped himself to a Michelle as the Aussies call it (five-for), to give him nine wickets in two matches.
The Sydney crowd must have been no doubt shell-shocked, as we most certainly were. Sydney Thunder’s innings was the lowest in a men’s T20 game, in history!
It’s fair to say, it’s going to be double batting practice for last year’s beaten finalists. The one takeaway from this game is that the Thunder batsmen can breathe a sigh of relief that they don’t have to face Henry Thornton every week.
Unfortunately, this Thornton isn’t a part of the master chocolatier family, but rather he’s yet another Aussie quick that’s on the never-ending conveyor belt of quicks from Down Under.
Getting skittled all out for 15, is in my opinion, something that can only happen in the BBL. This is what makes the BBL, the unpredictability of the matches and the pitches. So low scores are inevitable, but not quite as low as this surely?
