Why De Zerbi will be a success for Brighton

He’s not even been in the dugout for one match, but already new Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi has his doubters, that he will be able to succeed as manager of Brighton and Hove Albion.

The 43-year-old, who has managed Sassuolo and Shaktar Donetsk, had been out of work since July, due to the ongoing Russia and Ukraine conflict. I have you know Brighton, are arguably like Italian side Sassuolo, produced and nurture talented players rather than buying established stars.

The SerieA club had Jeremy Boga, Domenico Berardi and Manuel Locatelli, who have all become stars since . This concept is something not too dissimilar to the way Premier League Brighton operates.

Marc Cucurella, Yves Bissouma and Ben White are just a few of many examples of players getting neutered and then eventually sold. Under predecessor Graham Potter, The Seagulls were a front-foot side, who loved to take the game to the opposition, with De Zerbi in charge, this philosophy will remain.

Credit to Tony Bloom and co, they have managed to find the right kind of manager, a manager that keeps the continuity of playing in one set way. The former Napoli midfielder was Brighton’s first choice and it’s with merit too .

Roberto De Zerbi has won titles in Ukraine, so does have pedigree. Sceptics will say that he doesn’t know the league, but if the former Sassuolo boss can keep The Seagulls anyway near the top six, all will be forgotten about a settling period into the Premier League.

If the 43-year-old starts well, then he’s obviously a genius, lose then the narrative will be, well we knew he wouldn’t succeed. Here at the-sports-buff.com. there’s only optimism in the appointment as Roberto De Zerbi is clearly a talented coach.

No English coach has won the Premier League, but yet four Italian managers have. De Zerbi won’t win the League (we think) with Brighton, but it proves managers are talented from that neck of the woods.

Let me put it this way, Brighton have only hired three managers (including Dezerbi) since 2014, when Sami Hypia left. These guys (Britton’s hierarchy) know what they’re doing, they’re a well-run operation.

Roberto De Zerbi’s first game as manager of Brighton is against Liverpool, so a nice and easy game to start with (sarcasm plenty there).
