Will Power

Hooray he’s done it. Somerset and Quetta Gladiators batsmen Will Smeed has managed to score a century in the shorter format . Smeed, the 20-year old who can also bowl off-spin, after many near misses in the short form of the game, was able to get over the line and score a century .

Similar to India’s Rishabh Pant, the Englishmen has a few half-centuries to his name, but wasn’t able to get the big three figures score. Wicket-keeper batsmen Pant does have some centuries, but arguably the Delhi Capitals skipper should have some more centuries to his name, than what he does.

Pant, arguably should have a better 50 to 100 conversion rate, such is the talent of the man. He makes batting effortless.

Will Smeed, a player I must admit, was not a player I knew too much about, but that changed when he played for Quetta Gladiators. Clean-striking, good temperament despite his tender years and very aggressive, it became clear this boy could play and had the attitude to match the talent .

Fifty turned into 80 and the inevitable (the century) seemed a formality, but the Somerset man would fall cruelly for 97. Sadly for Smeed history would repeat itself and he will fall short of what was maybe an elusive century (he was out for 99).

Yes, even I admit that’s being melodramatic as Will Smeed is just 20-years old. This tale does have a happy ending as the Somerset player would score a 50-ball century, the only problem I have with it is, it was scored in the worst format of the game (The Hundred).

Will Conrad Francis Smeed, here’s to hoping you score many hundred’s, but for England, Somerset and your T20 franchise.
