Carney Chukwuemeka, who? I hear you ask. Well sports fans let me enlighten you who this is, this is a now former Aston Villa midfielder who rejected a contract extension at Villa and was duly signed by West London giant Chelsea.
Linked with AC Milan and Barcelona (yes you read that right), the Under-19 European Championship winner, will not only signify a time where The Blues beat arch-nemesis in this year’s transfer window Barcelona to a signing of a player, but also a time where they have brought youth.
Kai Havertz is one player, as I hastily correct myself, but the former Bayer Leverkusen man of course isn’t a British/English youngster. For Chelsea, usually the formula is to buy players who are established then sell the academy players.
It appears to me that Tuchel, surely wouldn’t have signed a player for £20 million, to only put him in the reserves (that’s just me anyway). The Aston Villa academy player was linked with several clubs across Europe, so Tod Boehly has done well to beat them all to sign Carney.
Where and how he will fit into the team is a mystery, but this seems to be in line with the current scatter gun approach at Stamford Bridge for signing players.
Chelsea really wanted Jules Kounde and lost out to Barcelona, just once now The Catalan giants have a taste of their own medicine. Tod Boehly’s Chelsea’s tenure is gathering momentum!
