Barcelona, the older child who wants everyone else’s toys

Hello, good afternoon sports fans, it’s me Ayyaz Malik aka The Sports Buff. I hope you’re well, looking after yourselves and are in good health. We need to talk about football and in particular Barcelona.

FC Barcelona, who are five-time Champions League winners, have endured a decline which has got worse over time. From the poor running of the club from former Barca President Josep Bartomeu and the transfer of star-player Lionel Messi, The Catalans have fallen from grace, very dramatically and quickly.

Crippling debts, which grew to over £1 billion has meant that Barcelona need drastic measures and fast. So, in the time of dire need the Barca president Joan Laporta and the board discussed about using economic levers to help inject the club with cash in the short term.

TV rights have been sold, as well as merchandise too. This combination of measures that the Spaniards have had to deploy will give them some £600 million in the short term. With that cash injection, logic would say surely make in roads into the massive debt, but this is the world of football and world of Barcelona too, they don’t do logical or normal.

Normal would be not to sign, Robert Lewandowski for £42.5 million, a man who is 34 and had one year left on his Bayern Munich contract. Chelsea were interested in him as they were with Raphinha.

The Blues had even agreed a fee, but the former Leeds man didn’t want to join. After looking at the other deals that Barcelona have made, it’s clear they’re obsessed with Chelsea.

Barca want to sign Cesar Azpilicueta, have signed Andreas Christiansen and of course beat the West London club to the signings of Pole Lewandowski and Brazilian forward Raphinha. Barcelona are obsessed with Chelsea.

Do you know what they’re like? Barca are like that big brother who loves the little brothers toys, Nope doesn’t like his own toys, but only the little brothers. To keep the analogy going, they will use the toys after a few months and want to throw it away afterwards.

With Barcelona’s transfer dealings and conduct in full view of the world Arsenal will be hoping The Catalans go after Nicolas Pepe, first they need to get Chelsea interested, so Barca can do what they have done throughout this summer, pinch Chelsea players or ones that were destined to be Chelsea players.

Another player that Barcelona look set to snatch of Chelsea is Jules Kounde of Sevilla, which is quite amazing after another player (Kalidou Koullibally) was’t signed by Barca as apparently they didn’t have the cash.

All that’s left is for Manchester United to convince Chelsea that Maguire is the man to fill their defensive deficiencies, which will make Barca jump into action.
