Former Burnley and Bournemouth manager has finally been appointed the new Newcastle manager in a deal that will see the former Amersham born coach at St James’ Park till 2024. Englishman Howe has been out of the game for two years and takes over at The Magpies with the side second from bottom and yet to win this season.
The new owners, who had initially approached Unai Emery for the job and were willing to pay the Spaniards reported release clause of £5.1 million to Villareal, but were rebuffed by the former Arsenal manager who wasn’t sold on the vision.
With Paulo Fonseca also in talks with The Magpies, Amanda Staveley would have been keen to avoid a situation similar to that of Tottenham earlier this year , who had reportedly lined up several managerial targets, but for one reason or another weren’t able to get their man.
In the case of Tottenham, they now have a world class manager in Antonio Conte. With former Bournemouth manager Howe, Newcastle have someone who knows the Premiership well and knows about dealing with being at the wrong side of the table.
With The Cherries, Eddie Howe helped the South Coast side become one of the better footballing sides in the country, which Newcastle United and their passionate fans will be crying out for now Howe is their manager.
The former Bournemouth defender, in my humble opinion will be a good manager for Newcastle , but I feel he will need a director of football in there too just to help him with signings , which the 43-year old has said to have got.
The 43-year old Howe’s record in the transfer isn’t great, but with a bigger transfer budget, Eddie Howe arguably has the best job in world football, but that’s what they said about Claudio Ranieri when he was Chelsea manager in the aftermath of their takeover, and we will remember what happened there.
Let’s hope lightening doesn’t strike twice hey?
