Brighton, remember them? If you don’t, they were the club that consigned the mighty Manchester United to just 40 games in a season; the last time that happened was during the World War.
Last season, when interim boss Darren Fletcher took charge of The Red Devils, The Seagulls Brighton defeated United 2-1 to dump them out of the second tournament of the season.
In tonight’s Carabao Cup game, this is, of course, the first chance for a team to gain silverware. The South Coast side, since getting promoted to the top flight, have steadily built and are now seen as one of the best-run teams in the League.
Brighton are fourth in the League after another good start to the season, while United are 13th, their joint-worst start to a League campaign since 1992.
The game, which will be kicking off at 20:00 BST, will be the ideal chance for Man United to bounce back after the disappointing result in the Derby on Sunday. This match will be far from easy for Michael Carrick’s Manchester United side.
In some quarters, there is an argument that the United chief is under pressure after their desperate start to the season. A win here won’t fully silence the boo boys (and girls), but it might just ease the pressure for more week.
Manchester United host Brighton in the third round of the Carabao Cup; kick-off is at 20:00 BST.
