Say it loudly, say it maybe even quietly, but however you will say it, just spare a minute and give the mighty Leeds United their flowers! Just wow, look at them. Yes, it’s four games in, and the days of the early 2000s aren’t back just yet, but for one week let’s let Dominic Calvert-Lewin be prime Michael Bridges.
The Lillywhites, after thrashing Newcastle this evening, are third in the table, level on points with Yorkshire rivals Hull City. Some fans might have been disappointed with the lack of signings made by the club, but early on they have been superb.
Bringing James Trafford from Manchester City was a master stroke, because he was always far too good to be sitting on the bench. Daniel Farke, who was initially best known for taking Norwich City into the Premier League, has somewhat restored his reputation.
With Leeds, he has shown he has what it takes to keep a team in the Premier League, and maybe one of his greatest achievements is getting DCL back in form and spending more time on the pitch than on the treatment table.
Not only is the German manager the footballing Messiah, but he’s also the king of football masseurs. A winnable game (on paper) against Crystal Palace before the first international break of the new season, and then a very tricky game against League leaders and champions Arsenal awaits thereafter.
One could argue that the autumn break is coming at the worst time; maybe it is, but only time will tell. What is certain is that Leeds United fans enjoy the now.
