Hello, good morning sports fans. I hope you’re well, looking after yourselves and are in good health. We need to have a chat about football and, more specifically, the recently concluded transfer window.
Yesterday the transfer window shut at 11 pm. Deals were still allowed to be completed after that, I must add, but the ones that had the deal sheet submitted before the deadline were the ones that were given the extra time to finish off.
A case of dotting i’s, crossing t’s, one could say. In this period, news emerged that some transfers had been completed, deals like Malick Fofana joining Sunderland and other deals collapsing, Folarin Balogun’s move to Everton.
Deals break down or don’t materialise; that’s football, but the problem is that with Beto leaving for Fiorentina, The Toffees needed a frontman. Thierno Barry, who has started this season in red-hot form, will need a deputy.
Sure, Brenan Johnson can play down the middle, but I feel Everton are still short. Talisman Iliman NDiaye, who was set for a big role this term, has moved to Manchester City.
The Senegalese’s departure is massive, as he was a vital creative spark for The Blues. Jack Grealish has been signed as well as Ainsley Maitland-Niles, but Nathan Patterson is leaving for Torino, which only offsets the departure.
For Everton to get to the next level, they need more ambition. I am sorry to paint such a gloomy picture, Everton fans; this looks like it’s going to be a long season now.
Of course I would love to be proven wrong. the only plus point I can see is that you have David Moyes as manager; that brings some hope. If he wasn’t manager, I wouldn’t give Everton any chance at this stage.
