Usually seen as one of the pioneers in the transfer market, it can be argued that Liverpool have struggled this year in the summer transfer window. The 20-time Premier League champions haven’t quite operated in the same usual slickness that they have been accustomed to.
Their newly found transfer strategy of beating Newcastle United to their transfer targets, or signing their players, runs so deep. The Reds have been linked with a couple of players all summer.
Yann Diomande of RB Leipzig, who has now gone to Real Madrid, or Bradley Barcola of PSG. Both men are said to be valued similarly in the transfer market. Los Blancos signed Diomande for £120 million, and it’s been widely reported that Barcola will be roughly the same.
Such is the strength of the Parisians that they can let a player of this calibre go, albeit reluctantly. It’s almost a cruel twist of fate for Barcola. At international level, he is having to contend with Ousmane Dembele and Desire Doue, and at club level it’s that man Doue again, as well as Georgian Khavicha Kavraskalia. With Liverpool clearly in the middle of a rebuild, at club level at least, Barcola can maybe start to catch a break!
PSG already have a replacement lined up, after they completed the signing of Spain World Cup-winning forward Ferran Torres.
