Pardon the overreaction theatre, but two games into the new Scottish Premier League, Glasgow Rangers have yet to earn a point. It’s only two games; don’t panic? There is some merit to that, but with Celtic, unlike last season, appearing to hit their straps early, this could already be a long season for The Gers.

Last term, Russell Martin was at the helm in the early stages of the season, and the former Rangers centre-back didn’t last over a dozen games. The 55-time Premier League champions are having a similarly sluggish start, but this wasn’t suppose to happen.

Hearts manager and former Rangers midfielder, Derek McInnes, had agreed to replace Danny Rohl, who left to join RB Salzburg. Furthermore, McInnes brought Lawrence Shankland, captain of The Jambos and leading marksman.

Shankland’s arrival, in what was a free transfer, was supposed to make the attacking department a bit more experienced. As grim as it does look right now, Rangers should surely give McInnes time, but I will and have said it here, of course; previous Rangers managers have been sacked for less.

Managing Glasgow Rangers is arguably one of the hardest jobs in European football, but it can also be one of the best; that’s the challenge for Derek McInnes, to make what he can of it.
