Newcastle fans, look away now! After selling Anthony Gordon and getting a tidy transfer fee for the former Everton winger, we have seen a repeat of last term: Premier League rivals Liverpool have pipped them to the deal.
The signing in question is that of Victor Munoz, the one-cap Spain international from Osasuna, who will be playing for La Roja and has signed a six-year deal with Liverpool to become new manager Andoni Iraola’s first signing.
Munoz, who was previously on the books of Real Madrid and Barcelona, opted not to move back to the Spanish capital after Jose Mourinho was appointed manager.
The highly rated Munoz was targeted by the Catalan giants Barcelona before they ultimately decided to sign Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United. Despite signing Munoz, it’s expected The Reds will look to step up their interest in Yann Diomande from German side RB Leipzig next.
As for Newcastle, this is a nightmare scenario. The club did all the groundwork, but yet again Liverpool have stolen a march on a potential Newcastle signing. The £34.5 million release clause was met, and the rest is set to be history.
With this transfer snub, this might force The Magpies to raid their own academy and bring one of their own talents through.
