Just days after confirming his departure from Liverpool, former centre-back Ibrahima Konate is close to joining 15-time Champions League winners Real Madrid on a free transfer.
The 27-year-old was a free agent after leaving The Reds after a trophy-laden five-year spell at Anfield.
It was expected that the former RB Leipzig player would sign a new deal with the 20-time Premier League champions, but a breakdown in talks will mean that Virgil Van Dijk’s central-defensive partner will leave the club for free.
Konate has made 183 appearances since signing for Liverpool from RB Leipzig in a £35 million deal. The Frenchman won the Premier League title, an FA Cup and two League Cups during his time at Anfield.
The 27-year-old’s pending move to the Spanish giants sees him reunite with former teammate Trent Alexander-Arnold. The move can only be completed when Ibrahima Konate’s contract expires at the end of this month.
