The finals night of the BetMGM Premier League did not disappoint as fans were treated to all three matches going to a deciding leg in what would be darting drama.
The four successful competitors in the standings would head to the oche at the O2 Arena to put their names down in history.
The first semi-final was Luke Littler vs Gerwyn Price as this matchup had everyone on the edge of their seats.
At the break, ‘The Nuke’ was 6-4 up against the Welshman as the finishing of the World Champion started off very accurate.
Littler increased his lead to 9-4 and was one leg away from securing a place in the final, but ‘The Iceman’ prepared himself to deliver a shock of the decade.
After some incredible checkouts and a big average, Price pulled it back to 9-9 in what was looking to be one of the greatets comebacks in the sport.
However, Price’s steam ran low in the vital leg as Littler checked out 32 to reach the final after a nerve-racking end to a performance.
The second semi-final saw Luke Humphries take on Jonny Clayton in what seemed like a well-matched contest.
‘Cool Hand’ was at one point four legs ahead of ‘The Ferret’ before going into the break 6-4 up as the 51-year-old was gaining momentum.
Clayton managed to level the game at 7-7 before triumphing in his next two legs to be one away from a place in the final.
However, the defending champion caught up and made it 9-9 after impressively checking out 121 to make the second match just as intense as the first.
Clearly, the Welshmen don’t have their luck when it comes to a decider as Humphries prevailed by checking out 25 to win 10-9.
Just when you thought it couldn’t get any better, the final delivered plenty of drama and was hard to predict who would end the night as champion.
At the break, the Reading-born darts player was 6-4 up as while his average was lower than Littler’s his checkout accuracy was much higher.
Once the match reached 7-7, both Englishmen were trading points and throwing incredible darts as the legs were not lasting long.
Heading into the deciding leg, Humphries failed to check out 113 as The Nuke was left on 54, and at no surprise, Littler successfully targeted double 20 to win the competition.
A Littler vs Humphries final has happened three consecutive times in the BetMGM Premier League which doesn’t seem surprising after the performances from Thursday night.
The Warrington player wins his second Premier League title, and for the first time, wins it in the same year as his world championship glory.
