Both in the history of the Premier League competition have challenged valiantly for the League title. In the case of Liverpool, they have won it twice since its inauguration in 1992/93.

The first winners were, of course, Manchester United (you’re welcome, Liverpool fans). I am sure they were very grateful for me bringing up that fact. As a football lover, I sadly have to bring to your attention another fact, Liverpool fans.

This coming season is going to be tough. Mohammed Salah and Andy Robertson have both confirmed they will be leaving the club. News has emerged in the last 24 hours that Ibrahima Konate will be leaving last season’s Premier League winners on a free transfer.

That’s three players who were instrumental in the club’s title win. Newcastle United, their Premier League rivals, are in for challenging times as well. Veteran Kieran Trippier and talisman Anthony Gordon will both be leaving St James Park.

Right-back Trippier has agreed a deal to move to newly relegated Wolves, and attacker Gordon has agreed a move to Spanish giants Barcelona. What sets The Magpies apart is that, although they will be going through some upheaval, they at least secured a premium fee for their best player.

Liverpool, which is not usually like them, are losing some very good talent and getting some higher earners off the wage bill in return. With Michael Edwards back behind the scenes, maybe it’s a sign that the 20-time Premier League winners are prepared in advance for the challenges of rebuilding a new team.

For both teams, the changes that they will implement will take time, so patience is needed, but do you get that in football these days?
