In seasons gone by, Premier League giants Manchester United have made the same mistake, over and over again. In recent times, however, there appear to be signs that The Red Devils have changed their ways.

In the last transfer window, The Reds signed Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbuemo, as well as Sanne Lamens in what was an encouraging window. On the whole, by Man United’s standards, that was a good window.

The one issue I had with the board was the time it took to complete the Mbuemo deal; that seemed a bit clumsy during the negotiations. With Tottenham also interested, United were lucky that they got the deal over the line, but then again, come on lads, it’s Tottenham!

Yes, I am being very tongue-in-cheek, but The Lillywhites were poor doing business last term. Eberechi Eze, Antoine Semenyo, and, of course, Mbuemo were all deals that Spurs fumbled and, in turn, lost out on.

News has been circulating that Manchester United are in advanced talks with Ederson, the Atalanta defensive midfielder, who will be going to the World Cup with Brazil.

The rumoured fee for the former Cruzeiro man is in the region of £38 million. That is good business; the soon-to-be 28-year-old has impressed in Bergamo and would be a great deal for the club.

United did want to sign Elliott Anderson, but a massive amount of respect ot the Man United board for learning the skill of walking away. The deal with Anthony comes to mind, from a few years ago, when The Red Devils went into negotiations like headless chickens.

Now the proverbial chicken has a head. Due to financial management blunders, Man United will need to be smart with their transfers. Maybe scour France, the Netherlands or even Germany, but usually when clubs are aware of interest from English clubs, the price rises. I am running a few minutes late; my previous meeting is running over.

With Ederson, that couldn’t happen too often because he was in the final 12 months of his contract.
