Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is to leave the club at the end of the season, as per multiple outlets. The City great does have one year left on his current deal, but it’s been reported that many of Man City’s coaching staff are bracing for Pep’s departure.
Club bosses have also reportedly tried to persuade Pep Guardiola to stay on, but at the same time, believe that this season will be Guardiola’s last. With news emerging that The Blues had spoken to former assistant Enzo Maresca, formerly of Chelsea, about the role earlier in the season, there were, at that point, no reported indications that the great man wanted to leave.
Former Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss Pep Guardiola is easily one of the greatest managers in Manchester City history and Premier League history. This year marks Guardiola’s 10th year in charge of the club.
In that time, the legendary Spaniard has won 17 trophies. It goes without saying that whoever replaces Pep has big shoes to fill. According to multiple reports, former Leicester City and Chelsea boss Maresca is Manchester City’s preferred choice.
If it is the Italian, the good thing about the appointment would be that he knows the club and some of the players. Luis Enrique could be another target, but it’s highly unlikely that Pep’s former teammate would agree to such a move.
Another good candidate that would be is Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola, who’s leaving at the end of the season, but for a club as well-structured as Man City, that’s too left-field, surely!?
