George Russell, who was involved in last season’s title race with Lando Norris, won the first race of the season, the Melbourne Grand Prix in Australia. Russell led the race at the start, after the Mercedes driver finished in pole in qualifying.
Team-mate Kimi Antonelli ensured a Mercedes one-two after the Italian earned second place. Charles Leclerc, in his Ferrari, completed the podium places. Seven-time World Champion Lewis Hamilton was fourth, and the current World Champion Norris was fifth.
Former World Champion, Max Verstappen, who is a four-time World Champion, finished sixth in his Red Bull, which was an achievement in itself, as the Dutch driver was forced to start at the back of the grid due to car problems in qualifying.
The next race on the F1 calendar sees them go to China for the Shanghai Grand Prix.
