England’s second-tier football League table is one of the best in Europe. Yeah, I said it. Some of my observations or footballing takes have not been to everyone’s liking, and I admit, my latest take might fall into the same category.

Just hear me out, please. The Championship, when Norwich and Fulham were dominating, were arguably a time when England’s second tier was like the Premier League, too one-sided, not enough competition.

In recent seasons, an air of normality has returned. Coventry, the League leaders, were 10 points clear at one stage, which is like a Fulham-like domination of old. But further down the table, there’s a fantastic tussle commencing for the last automatic-promotion slot between Middlesbrough and Ipswich.

The Tractor Boys, Ipswich, of course, were in the Premier League last term, and the two seasons prior were getting promoted in each of those seasons. from League One, to the Championship and the Championship to the Premier League.

Tynesiders Middlesbrough have been (just like Coventry), have been near the top of the League, they have been there, thereabouts. The gap between second and third is six points, but there is a but, the East Anglian’s Ipswich have two games in hand over Boro.

Things are tight on that side of the table. How about the play-offs? from six position to 12th position, there’s just six points that separate those sides. Watford are currently 12th.

The sides below, The Hornets, QPR, Swansea, and Sheffield United, should not be considered out of contention. They have 47,46, and 45 points respectively. How many League’s in Europe can say their League standings are that close?

I also argue that three teams are in danger of getting relegated. With Sheffield Wednesday being relegated due to their point deductions and Oxford appearing to be cut adrift in 19th, that means that there’s only one relegation slot. remaining, which three teams could still mathematically be affected by (relegation).

I rest my case, I think. A strong argument I have made, but what do you think?
