Norwegian minnow Dodo/Glimt produced one of the biggest shocks in Champions League history by defeating three-time winners Inter Milan. Leading 3-1 from the first leg, ‘the script’ would have written something along the lines of the Italian giants Inter would have beaten Bodo comfortably.

But the Norwegians who reached the semi-finals of the Europa League last-term don’t work by said script. Rather, Kjetil Knutsen’s side works by doing the opposite of what the script said.

Nine of Bodo/Glimt’s side were Norwegian, which can’t be said of Inter Milan, who have an expensive squad. Sounds similar to the Lisbon Lions of 1967, don’t you think?

The biggest turnaround of the night saw Atalanta overcome a 2-0 deficit from the first leg. That result in Bergamo was significant as this would have seen no Italian side in the knockout round, the last time that happened was in the late 80’s.

Champions League holders PSG are through, just about. Paris Saint-Germain, although they drew against Ligue 1 rivals Monaco 2-2 on the night at the Parc de Princes, PSG won the first leg, which was enough to get them through 5-4 on aggregate.

Elsewhere in the draw, 15-time Champions League winners Real Madrid did enough to get past Benfica, winning 3-1 on aggregate. Juventus, who needed to overturn a three-goal deficit from the first leg, fought bravely against Galatasaray and forced their tie to extra time.

The Old Lady wasn’t able to sing, and sadly for the Italians, who went down to 10 men on the night, they conceded two goals in extra time to lose their tie 7-5 on aggregate.

That’s it from us, see you next time.
