Usually, when someone thinks about Scotland and their football League, one would associate it with being one-sided, in otherwords they get cruel taunts such as ‘Farmers League’.
As seasons have gone by, arguably, the SPL has been one-sided and has suffered from a lack of competition, but that isn’t the case this season, far from it. Instead of it being a one-horse race, there is infact three-horses in this race.
Rangers, Celtic and hearts who currently lead the way and have done so for large parts of the season. After Rangers defeated the Edinburgh side last time out, the 55-time Scottish League winners would have gone into their game against Livingston in optimistic spirits.
Glasgow rivals Celtic would have been in similarly positive spirits against Hibernian, whom they faced at home. If results were secured on paper, then the title race in the SPL would continue to be tight, but in a plot twist, Rangers drew with Livi 2-2 and Celtic surprisingly got beaten 2-1 by the Edinburgh side.
With top of the table Hearts beating Falkirk the previous day, it’s fair to say that Sunday was a very good day for them indeed. The dropped points for the two Glasgow sides means that Hearts have at least a three-point lead over The Hoops (depending on the outcome of their game in hand) and a five-point lead over second-place Rangers.
With the Old Firm Derby next week, Rangers and Celtic could be rueing even more that they dropped points this week. It’s hotting up in cold Scotland!
